I had what I thought was a unique experience at an upscale restaurant recently. The sommelier was walking my group through the evening’s wine choices when his glasses caught my eye. It wasn’t the style (a very trendy, black Buddy-Holly type frame) that I noticed as much as the fact that the lenses looked…different. My dinner companions all happened to be fellow Altair Eyewear employees so I knew they noticed as well (we all seem to obsessively check out people’s frames) and eventually the most outspoken one in our bunch threw the question out there: “Excuse me, but if you don’t mind me asking, can you tell me what kind of lenses you have in your glasses?” The sommelier’s response? “Um, these are the plastic lenses that they came with. I saw these and had to have them-I don’t even need to wear glasses!” We all had a good laugh about it with him, but it made me think-it seems like I see people wearing trendy glasses without an Rx everywhere now! As it turns out, my observation is correct, and, according to the NY Daily Times, men are wearing these “fakes” just as much as women are, and for the same reasons. Who knows-if this trend continues, maybe we’ll see glasses become just as popular an accessory for men as belts, watches and shoes?
Diane von Furstenberg made a personal appearance at the Marchon booth during Vision Expo East to launch her new eyewear collection.
“Putting on a pair of glasses can change the way you look and feel,” said Diane von Furstenberg. “They are the lens through which you see the world.”
For its debut collection, the heritage and identity of the DVF brand was interpreted in different styles and materials resulting in a range of eyewear that is both classic and modern. Iconic details like the DVF lips, the love knot, the power stone, and the wrap dress were beautifully translated, with bright colors and eclectic patterns playing an important role throughout the collection.

Today is the 22nd Annual American Diabetes Association Alert DaySM. Diabetes Alert Day is day set aside each year to raise awareness about the seriousness of type 2 diabetes, particularly when it is left undiagnosed or untreated. The American Diabetes Association is encouraging everyone to join the movement to Stop Diabetes by taking the Diabetes Risk Test. The risk test is a series of simple questions about weight, age, family history and other potential risks for pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes. It shows you if you’re at low, moderate, or high risk for diabetes.
Pro basketball player, Tyreke Evans, knows how serious diabetes is, and he’s committed to raising awareness about it. On Diabetes Alert Day, he’s taking the Diabetes Risk Test and is challenging you to do the same. Find out what your risk is so you can make proactive choices about your health, and don’t forget to share the test with your family and friends! For more information about Tyreke’s challenge, click here.

The winner of our Facebook Sweepstakes made it to Florida Friday afternoon to the Transitions PGA Championship with his wife, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Whil PGA player John Mallinger wasn’t able to make it to the tournament last minute, our back up plan did work well with an introduction to non-other than Erik Estrada, that’s right, Ponch himself. That’s a fair trade right?
Stay tuned for some videos of Dave’s experience and updates from Sunday, including Erik Estrada’s explanation of the “Sightations” he has been giving out all weekend.
Type 2 Diabetes is extremely serious, especially when left undiagnosed or untreated. My mother and grandmother were diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes last year. This was a wake-up call to my family and we began to focus on eating better and exercising more. Type 2 Diabetes can be easily prevented or delayed by losing just 5-7% of body weight through regular physical activity (30 minutes a day, 5 days a week) and eating a healthy diet. I exercise 5 days a week for 2 hours a day and eat a healthy diet ensuring my risk of acquiring type 2 diabetes is very low.
On Diabetes Alert Day, I challenge you to take the Diabetes Risk Test and compare your score with mine. The test requires you to answer simple questions about potential risk factors for pre-diabetes or type 2 Diabetes. After you have completed the test, you will know whether you are at a low, moderate, or high risk for diabetes and you will be able to compare your results to mine. Remember, this is your life and only you can change the risk factors that lead to diseases like type 2 diabetes.
Mrs. Diane von Furstenberg will be making a personal appearance at Vision Expo East, Friday, 11:00a.m.-12:00p.m. at the Marchon Booth #2436. Please join us to welcome Mrs. Diane von Furstenberg.
VSP Regional Vice President, Frank Romeo and daughter Maggie Sue, winner of Regis & Kelly's Most Beautiful Baby Contest.
“It all started with a random photo taken by my wife Dana in our backyard,” explains VSP’s Frank Romeo as he shares behind-the-scenes events that unfolded over the course of a whirlwind week in New York.
“Our goal was to just have the photo posted on the Regis and Kelly photo gallery with thousands of other photos. My wife Dana checked the Web site weekly but never saw the photo.” says Frank, a VSP regional vice president in Georgia.
The photo that started it all.
Then, the week began to unfold…
Monday, March 1
The top 10 semi-finalists were revealed on the show, and Maggie Sue Romeo was in the Top 10!
“The online voting started immediately and with the help of friends and family [and thousands of online voters] Maggie made the Top 5! The show producers called Dana right after the show and [according to the contest rules for the week-long event], gave her four hours to get to the airport to New York. I was traveling on business, so my mother-in-law made the trip with Dana and Maggie. Read more »
